Wreaths and more Wreaths

I've been working on some of my burlap wreaths this weekend. I was so thrilled when a friend and coworker asked me to display some in her business. Here are a few new ones.

Two very different styles for different tastes. Which one fits your style??
I'll be linking to a new party this week:

Beachy Burlap Wreath

I had some more fun with burlap. I bought this teal burlap from eBay. I used a wire wreath form and weaved the fabric in and out to make it full. I used approximately 20 feet of burlap. Then I added some burlap flowers, shells, and starfish.

Lucky Wreath

I don't have many (ok not really any) decorations for St. Patrick's Day. I really love making wreaths so I whipped this beauty up the other day.  Here is a mini-tutorial on how I did it.

I like to use foam wreaths for these projects.

Cut your fabric in 1 1/2 inch strips and wrap it around the wreath.
I try to overlap the fabric and use as little glue as possible because I don't like the look of it.
I cut out burlap diamonds to use as the banner.  I spelled out LUCK with scrabble letters and glued them on
Little Shamrocks from Pick Your Plum.  I decoupaged some cute scrapbook paper on it.

I made a variety of flowers.  Tutorials for these flowers are all over blogland, but I would be happy to provide a tutorial on them if anyone wants.

I love it up against my shabby green chair.  I will be linking to the following St. Patrick's Day linky party.

Woo Hoo, my lucky wreath was lucky enough to be featured on Someday Crafts!!  Thank You!!!

Crafty Day

I was in a crafty mood yesterday.  During the day, Eliza and I worked on transforming some cardboard hearts, cut out of recycled cereal boxes, into cuteness.  We used tissue paper, cupcake liners, and other scraps to decorate the hearts.  Eliza loved pouring on the glitter of course.

Last night, the craftiness continued with my peeps, Allison and Angie.  Allison watched her beloved Syracuse and then we had to "suffer" through Miss America for Angie (ha ha).  We made burlap hearts by bending wire into the shape of a heart and adding strips of red burlap.  We cut the strips about 2 inches wide and fan folded them while putting them on the wire.
I think it turned out pretty cute.  All in all, it was a fun night.

Red Burlap Winter Wreath

I so loved my fall burlap wreaths that I had to come up with a winter one.  I used red burlap to wrap a foam wreath.  The flowers were made with mostly felt and a cute gray/black/ and red dollar store scarf.  I added some stacked buttons, metal snowflakes, and berries for a little texture.
It now hangs in my friend Angie's house (aka my best customer).  I miss it and might have to steal it back.

Bootiful Mantle

I love decorating for fall, mostly because I love the colors you can use to warm up the house.  I used this frame fitted with burlap

and switched out the stars for foam pumpkins that I cut in half, but kept the stem.

Here is a great picture of the whole mantel put together including the pumpkin specimen art.
I printed a cute little owl silhouette onto burlap, see this tutorial http://poppiesandpinwheels.blogspot.com/2011/08/for-love-of-burlap.html. for how to print directly onto burlap.
I'd love to see your fall decor!!!

Double the Cuteness

After making the burlap and lace wreath I presented in my last post, I decided to make mini's; adorable twin wreaths.

Here are some more cute close-ups:

Cute little twins without all the pain and sleepless nights : )

By the way, so excited that my Burlap and Lace Wreath was featured at Sweet little Gals, Lovely Crafty Home, and Beyond the Picket Fence.  If you haven't participated in their linky parties or visited their blog, I suggest you do so.  You'll be hooked like I am.

Burlap and Lace Wreath

I love how this combination came out.  I wrapped the wreath with strips of burlap and made fabric flowers from orange and turquoise fabric (love these colors together) and added a vintage flare with the lace.  Hope you like it!!
Now for some close ups...

Hope you have a terrific day!!

More Printing on Burlap

I got so excited about the whole printing on burlap idea that I made another banner.  I found this pennant image and saved it to my computer.  Then uploaded it to Picnik where I rotated it and added the letters.

I used a funky font and saved a pennant for each letter then printed them on burlap using the technique I told you about in my last post.  I used pinking sheers to cut out the pennants and hot glued some thick black ric rac on the top.  I did darken some of the letters with a paint pen and left the contact paper on because it kept the letters darker.

Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday and is safe from Irene.

For the love of BURLAP

BOO Banner
I'm sorta in love with burlap right now.  I search the blog world for fun and exciting things to do with it.  I made this cute Halloween Banner by cutting triangles of burlap and tracing letters onto it.  I used a black marker and then filled it in with paint.  I sewed the pieces onto the jute and then added the ribbon in between to add some flavor.  The ribbon on top of each triangle is fused on as well as the ric rac on the sides.

Printing on Burlap
I was curious about printing on burlap but worried about it fraying and getting stuck in the printer so I came up with a great idea (well at least I think it is).  I had some clear contact paper that I stuck to the burlap.  I cut it to the desired size and fed it through the printer successfully.  The adhesive on the contact paper kept the fabric from fraying.

I left the contact paper on when cutting and applying to ribbon.
I can't wait to create more things with burlap.  I will keep you updated!!
