Easter Egg Button Tree

I love taking dollar store items and jazzing them up into something special.  I bought a potted Easter Tree, carrot ornaments, and egg ornaments.

First I spread the branches apart.  I cut out leafs from coordinated fabric and glued them onto the branches.  I layered buttons and strung them onto other branches.  Then, my daughter and I added the carrot and egg ornaments.  As a finishing touch, I cut a circle of burlap and tied it around the pot with ribbon for a fresh look.  I incorporated it into my Easter mantle, which I will feature in my next post.

Banner O' Luck

I have time to squeeze in one more St. Patrick's Day craft.  This time I used wooden shamrocks and the word Luck that I purchased from....wait for it....PYP!! Anyone that doesn't know what PYP means, it's Pick Your Plum, my new addiction (next to Pinterest of course).  Here is the raw product.

Anyhoo, I decided to modge podge different scrapbook paper on each letter of LUCK and paint the shamrocks green of course.  I drilled small holes and laced on the twine.  I tied a few coordinating fabric strips in between and it turned out CUTE, CUTE, CUTE!!!

Lucky Wreath

I don't have many (ok not really any) decorations for St. Patrick's Day. I really love making wreaths so I whipped this beauty up the other day.  Here is a mini-tutorial on how I did it.

I like to use foam wreaths for these projects.

Cut your fabric in 1 1/2 inch strips and wrap it around the wreath.

I try to overlap the fabric and use as little glue as possible because I don't like the look of it.

I cut out burlap diamonds to use as the banner.  I spelled out LUCK with scrabble letters and glued them on

Little Shamrocks from Pick Your Plum.  I decoupaged some cute scrapbook paper on it.

I made a variety of flowers.  Tutorials for these flowers are all over blogland, but I would be happy to provide a tutorial on them if anyone wants.

St. Patty's Day Sign

As a I mentioned in my last post....I LOVE PICK YOUR PLUM!  I bought these bare signs and decided to turn a couple into St. Patrick's Day decor.  I used a couple of different craft paint colors to get the green I liked and used vinyl I cut from my silhouette.  The image can be downloaded from their online store.

Perfect Plum

I get so excited every day to check out the latest deal on Pick Your Plum, an online site that has a new craft deal every weekday.  The price is right and the amount is limited, which adds to the rush and excitement.  The sale starts at 9 a.m. eastern time and I hate when I realize at about 11 a.m. that I haven't checked it.  Their shipping is cheap and fast and they always throw in a little laffy taffy as a treat.  In November I ordered some naked magnetic recipe boards.

I used my Silhouette to cut out the words and added cute ribbon.  I also made magnets to coordinate with the colors.  I love them!!  I love seeing what people have done with their "Pick Your Plum" purchases.  Please come and share at the:

Having a "Ball"

One of my new favorite shows is Once Upon a Time on ABC.  I really didn't expect to like it, but because it is from the writers of Lost (my all-time favorite show...I miss you Jack) I decided to give it a chance.  It is based on fairy-tale characters who end up being cursed to live in the real world.  As usual, the writers are very clever in their development of the characters and plot.  My friend Allison and I have been getting together to watch it on Sunday nights and typically work on a little craft.  This Sunday I made the cutest fabric pom pom balls.  I took the tutorial pictures at Allison's with my iPhone so they are not perfectly clear, but you will get the idea.

I made different sizes with white, black, and red fabric.  I had fun displaying them in a variety of ways.

Great Valentine's Day Decor

Crafty Day

I was in a crafty mood yesterday.  During the day, Eliza and I worked on transforming some cardboard hearts, cut out of recycled cereal boxes, into cuteness.  We used tissue paper, cupcake liners, and other scraps to decorate the hearts.  Eliza loved pouring on the glitter of course.

Last night, the craftiness continued with my peeps, Allison and Angie.  Allison watched her beloved Syracuse and then we had to "suffer" through Miss America for Angie (ha ha).  We made burlap hearts by bending wire into the shape of a heart and adding strips of red burlap.  We cut the strips about 2 inches wide and fan folded them while putting them on the wire.

 

I think it turned out pretty cute.  All in all, it was a fun night.
